Lilly Flower Art

Hello everyone!! So today we had the day off from school because of 'ice' on the road. (Nothing actually happened.) Well, there goes one the Friday before spring break. Anyway, I figured that today would be a great day for some crafting!! I've seen these paper punch canvas artworks all over pinterest, but i decided to give it a little preppy twist and make the flower petals from my old Lilly agenda!

The materials you need are:
  • an old Lilly agenda (or any scrapbook paper would work)
  • a canvas (mine was 11x14 i think)
  • Modge Podge
  • a paint brush
  • a sharpie
  • some paint that matches the colors you use
  • and a mechanical pencil or a tiny paintbrush

First, remove all of the pretty month pages from your agenda. I grouped mine by colors that would look good together. Then cut off the holes on the side from where the pages were attached, as well as the little tab that has the month on it.

Using only the pages that were pink and green, I loaded the papers into my Cricuit and cut out pointed oval shapes. If you don't have a Cricuit, this would be very easy to do with scissors.. I used five pages and cut 9 petals on each of them for a total of 45, and had a few left over. I think the size was about 1 inch by 2 inches. The number of petals you need depends on  the size of the petals and the size of the canvas.

If you would like to have a background color on your canvas, go ahead and paint it before you cut your leaves so it has time to dry. I left mine white so the pink and green would pop.  Next, arrange the petals however you would like. I started with five, then put one in each space between the original five, then another in the newly created space, and so on. (the picture might provide an easier explanation!) Once I liked the look of it, I painted Modge Podge on the back of each leaf, gluing from the outermost ring to the inside.  Once all of them were glued down, i spread a layer of Modge Podge over the entire canvas to give it a glossy look.

Since I didn't paint my canvas, i thought it was a little boring like this. I've always loved Lilly Pulitzer's signature, so I decided to add it to my canvas to make it look authentic. (this may be considered illegal.... but it's just going to stay in my bedroom, so its okay :)) To do this, I printed out a Lilly signature from google on normal computer paper and cut out the signature part.

Then, I put a small piece of tape in each corner to attach it to the canvas, making sure the tape did not cover the letters. With a sharpie, I traced over the letters several times. I recommend practicing this on a regular piece of paper first.

When i took the paper off, the signature was sharpied on my canvas! If you would like to leave it black, you could just trace over it again with sharpie directly on the canvas.

However, I wanted mine to be PINK, of course! I didn't have any small paint brushes on hand, so used a mechanical pencil that didn't have any lead. I dipped the pencil in some pink acrylic paint and traced right over the sharpie.

This is what the signature looked like when I was all finished... pretty good!

And that's it! Pretty easy, huh? I'm kind of in love with it! I had to take down another picture to make room for it on my wall... but oh well this is way better than what was there before!

Enjoy & Happy Crafting!

Keep it preppy!
Love Mackenzie
